DAT-Heads Digest #43, Volume #3 ------------------------------- From: "Ross Warren, Jr" Subject: More on DAT>VHS_Hi-Fi Date: Tue, 12 Nov 1996 22:04:26 -0500 Anyway, the catalog number given is wrong. I just purchased this plug (comes in a two pack) and the correct number is 274-1532 for the 4.0 X 1.7mm DC Power Plug. Cost was $1.99. Later, Ross Warren, Jr. DAT-Heads Digest #992, Volume #2 -------------------------------- From: EMR97@uno.cc.geneseo.edu Subject: D-cell battery-pack for the D7/D8 (yellow-tip plug) Date: Wed, 16 Oct 1996 00:22:44 -0500 (EST) You can now get the 1.7mm yellow-tipped plug from Radio Shack without having to buy the $12.99 car adapter. The part number is : 270-1575 The price : $2.99 So this simple little project now will cost you about $5 (includes tax). --------------- Msg#: 59076 Pvt Rec'd Date: 04-12-96 06:01 From: Al Sabirsh (alan@biogen.wblab.lu.se) ------ This is a brief summary of the replies I received following my question about power supplies for the D7. I post it here for the masses. I assume this info. goes for the D8 as well. A non-Sony D7 power supply is just fine, as long as one follows a few rules: - the power supply should be well regulated to ensure a clean output. - the D7 (and D8?) requires an EIAJ standard 1.7 mm plug that is somewhat difficult to obtain. Radio Shack (American electronics store) sell general prupose plug packages that come with a variety of adaptors, and includes the 1.7mm. Alternatively, Klay Andersson Audio (www.klay.com) stocks the adaptors by themselves for 2.95USD. - the power supply should be capable of generating at least 6V and 400mA, BUT, should not generate and unloaded voltage of more than 7.5V (this will fry things). Putting some Zener 6.8V diodes in the circuit will fix the problem in this case. The actual Sony supply varies in terms of current supply (depending on the model etc.), but the more the merrier, because the D7 (and D8?) draws a fair bit of current when the motors rev up, so 800mA would not be inappropriate. - then of course one can order SONY part no. AC-E60L (Amercian model) to get the real thing for the D7. The D8 comes with AC-E60HG. -make sure the polarity is correct with a voltmeter before plugging it in! don't turn your d7 into a paperweight! The central terminal is positive. Thanks to all those who replied Seth, David Brown, John, Klay Andersson, Jonathan Seder, Jesse Lackey, and everybody else I haven't mentioned. AL ---------- From: "Jay J.
