After giving the local police a few months to recover, Seven Mary Three returned to Cincinnati. This time the show was outside of the city limits at the Riverbend Music Center.

It has rained all day & looked like it would be a wet outdoor concert. But, about 1 hour before the show started, the sun came out. The Verve Pipe, The Refreshments, and Poe opened the show up. Several local news crews were on-site, trying to make a big story out of the riot starting band. Security was very tight. We were not permitted to bring a blanket into the concert (I guess they thought that we would use it to smother someone???), also my friend could not bring in here bottle of perfume from her purse ("it could be used as a weapon"????).

7M3 took the stage around 9 pm and opened with "MY MY". Next was an awesome version of "Waters Edge". Followed by 2 new songs ( which sounded excellent). The crowd was moshing in a huge mud pit in front of the stage. Lots of crowd surfing too. The crowd was very cool & helpful towards each other. We stood in mud up to our ankles for the entire 90+ minute set.

The band left the stage & return for several acoustic songs including "Roderigo", "Lame", and a new song. The band even let one of their roadies sit in and play guitar for one of the songs.

Before "Cumbersome", the band apologized for the riot at the Jammin' on Main show back in May. They said that they had about 3 weeks left on the tour. They played 2 new songs from "The Crow Soundtrack" and "MOM - Songs for the Ocean"???. The band said that they expect a new album out in the Jan-March 1997 timeframe.

The band closed the show with The Doors "Backdoor Man" (as J. Ross said "if you can't get in the front door, slide in the back door"). The fans of Cincinnati would like to thank Seven Mary Three for returning to our city. Especially after how the ROBOCOPS of the Cincinnati Police Department ruined the last show.

Riverbend Music Center unveiled its second stage Tuesday night before a capacity crowd of 4,000. In grand opening fashion Seven Mary Three, with support acts Poe, The Refreshments and The Verve Pipe, inaugurated the pared-down concert setting, whichcombines the amenities of a full-service Riverbend with the intimacy of a club.

The story following Seven Mary Three's Pepsi Jammin' On Main performance was the riot that cut short the band's set. The melee among angered fans made news nationwide and forced the Cincinnati Police Department to once-again re-evaluate its crowd-control procedures.

This time around, however, the environment was free of hostility, allowing the music to become the focus.

Ripping into their set with "My My," off their debut, American Standard, Seven Mary Three frontman Jason Ross established an intensity in his voice that remained unwavering even on slower songs. With an explosive band backing him, Mr. Ross found his charisma in his full-throttle growl.

The audience members, mostly in their late teens to mid-'30s, dominated by rock 'n' roll males, responded with high-powered cheers and whistles. Of course the ever-present body surfing was a visible mode of music appreciation.

Songs in WEBN-FM's rotation - "Cumbersome," "Water's Edge," "Devil Boy" - struck instant familiarity with the band's no-frills style of rock. The radio station has created a large Cincinnati following for the band.

Those selections, with their slightly alternative bent, played well to the energized audience. A cover of Willie Dixon's "Back Door Man" found Mr. Ross in a dual incarnation of Jim Morrison and Eddie Vedder.

Riverbend's security force, resembling Woodstock's mud people by show's end, had few fights to contend with in the soggy mosh-pit of the mini- amphitheater.

Chad Ponchot, of Edgewood, commented on the friendly air of the event: " This goes to show that Cincinnati can party in style without a riot."
